Our Logo: The Dwennimmen

The Peers Forum logo, a stylized depiction of two rams’ horns coming together, stands for strength of mind and body, humility, wisdom, and learning. It is an African symbol that comes from Adinkra cloth, a traditional form of printing created by the Asante people of Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire. Adinkra figures represent cultural ideas, abstract concepts, significant events, proverbs, and folk tales. Although they were originally worn only by spiritual leaders and members of royal families as funeral items (Adinkra means “goodbye”), Adinkdra designs can now found around the world. The Adinkra form that inspired our logo is called a dwennimen. The values it represents, and its connection to our school’s logo, which features a lamb, make the dwennimen an especially appropriate image for the Peers Forum.
